It's a pretty decent size for a tabletop speaker. There is NO way to disable this feature besides jacking the volume up. Well I got these as a gift a couple years ago. My main and probably only gripe that destroys this speaker for me is that it automatically shuts itself off after 10 minutes if the volume is not above a predetermined level. If you like to listen to your music at a nice soft/reasonable level these speakers are terrible because you will have to turn them back on every 10 minutes or so. I am no audiophile but I have no problems with the audio quality. It can run off of 4 AA batteries (can't comment on battery life as I never used it) or you can plug it into the wall.
when i turn it up as loud as i can get it with our distorting, I can hear it maybe 60 yards away I use them with my ipod with the eq settings on small speaker. I bought two of these and use them with a splitter. the bass isn't the best, but for what I paid it was well worth it.
However,there are two aspects of the sound that might not satisfy some people: 1. And the batteries last forever - I think they are rated at 40 hours, but I don't know for sure because I haven't changed mine yet. The sound is excellent, audiophile quality.
The entire front and back surfaces ARE the speaker, so they are about as small as they could possibly be, and they move a lot of air, comfortably generating enough volume to fill a large room without hurting the ears of people sitting close to them. And the thing turns itself off if it isn't used for several minutes, conserving batteries even further. The speakers are light, self-contained, and easy to carry in a backpack or large pocket.
If I try to imagine the perfect portable speaker, it's hard to come up with something better than this. stereo separation is remarkable for something so small, but not as good as you could get with separate speakers. Overall, these are fantastic speakers; whoever designed them should get a prize.
In particular, the base is accurate: rich, full, and tight. if you want the artificially pumped-up base that causes hearing loss, these speakers aren't for you; 2.
They are very directionally oriented. As others have noted, the audio cord is very short3. Cannot drive them too hard - but considering their size and intended purpose, it is too be expected2.
We have been using them as portable speakers for watching movies on my laptop when we are on vacation. Long Battery life - You can easily get 20-30 hours of continuous play on regular AA batteries3. I had bought these speakers over 3 years ago.

Battery life is good, and only requires AA's.Cons: Cord too short. It takes four AA's--cheap and easy. Can't handle some higher volumes. I've been using it daily for a year and half already, and it's still going strong. Pros: Crisp, clear sound.
I've never seen it turn off when there was music/sound playing, except when the batteries were dying. The volume is completely controlled by the audio source, but it's unlikely that you will find a source that is too weak to power this to any reasonable desired volume.As mentioned by other viewers, this speaker has an auto-shutdown feature. It turns itself off if there is no input to it for a certain time (maybe 5 minutes). It's nearly flawless, like most Logitech products.
First, the important things: it's extremely easy to pack and store, because it's relatively thin. Thin profile; easy to pack and carry. The cord for the 3.5mm plug is far too short, and it can be awkward to find a good spot for the speaker when it's plugged into some laptops. The only issues I've had are with the battery compartment, in which the negative lead is kind of getting bent (probably my fault), and with the power button being a bit finicky. This is the perfect speaker for listening to your mp3 player in the car, boosting a laptop's weak sound, etc.The speaker is also very durable. The body is solid and very rugged, and it doesn't require a case because of the stand, which flips back over the speaker to cover the transducers.
Not a big deal--this can be fixed with a cheap extension cord.While the sound is excellent at a volume suitable for a single person or small group of people, it cannot blare anything at a large-room volume. The speaker might seem kind of odd because of the flat surface, but the transducers are very well-designed.
I don't consider this a very strong weakness, since nearly all small speakers suffer from this issue.The speaker has no volume slider or knob. I consider this a beneficial feature, since it saves power, but each will have his own opinion.
At higher volumes, it will become distorted (like any small speaker), and if you try turning it up too high, it'll start to cut out, possibly as an auto-protection feature. Very durable.
But after 18 months of constant use, I think that's very impressive.There are a couple problems with the speaker. It also comes with an AC adapter, so you can use it as a more stationary kind of speaker.
